FAQ

How much does it cost to sponsor a child?

Sponsoring a child costs CHF 50 per month, which can be paid on a monthly, semi-annual, or annual basis. A standing order is best.

How long does sponsorship last?

Sponsorships run for a minimum of one year. Unless it is canceled, it will continue to run until the child has completed their schooling. You can cancel your sponsorship at any time in writing if you are no longer able to fulfill the obligation, or for any other reason.

What happens if the child I sponsor is adopted?

It is generally still possible for children under the age of five to be adopted. The chances for older children are slim. If the child you sponsor is adopted, you can choose either to end your sponsorship, or to sponsor a different child.

Can I visit the child I sponsor?

Yes. You can join us on one of our trips. Just get in touch!

Can I choose whether I want to support a boy or a girl?

Yes. We offer a selection of children to sponsor, based on your preferences.

Which language should I write letters in?

The children understand French. If you would prefer to write in German, we can translate your letters for you. We’re also happy to translate the letters that the child you sponsor sends to you.

What is the money used for?

Your contribution pays school fees. Anything that is left over goes towards the costs of food, clothing and medical care.

What about contact with the child I sponsor?

The children and teenagers enjoy having a personal relationship with their sponsor in the form of short letters, photos, small gifts or a visit. As a sponsor, you will receive mail two or three times a year: your sponsored child’s school report in August, a letter and/or drawing on another occasion, and a recent photo.

Is support limited to children in the children's home?

We are looking for sponsors for both children at the home and those who do not live with us. We often have mothers coming to the home wanting to give up their children. Some of these children are included in the sponsorship program so that they are able to stay with their families. The Association and the children’s home generally try to ensure that a child is able to grow up in their own family, if the conditions are appropriate and reasonable.

Can I choose to sponsor a child of a certain age?

Yes, although we cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet all of your wishes, as there are more younger children than older ones.

Can I write to the child I sponsor by regular mail?

No, there is no functioning mail system in Haiti. We have a network of people to travel to Haiti regularly. We give them the mail to take with them.

In February 2019 I was able to visit the two children I sponsor. It was very moving and I found it a greatly rewarding experience. To see life in one of the world’s poorest countries and that, despite everything, the children are happy, was wonderful. It really touched my heart and renewed my faith.

Moïse Privat

Moïse Privat came to the children’s home as an infant. He was completely helpless, lying in his little bed and looking up at me with his big brown eyes. These days he loves sitting on the swing and being pushed. He can walk, talk, and resists anyone who tries to take a toy away. When he laughs, he’s pure sunshine. I love sponsoring him and am really happy that Moïse has found a new home at Maison des Anges.
